Business Intelligence and PerformancePoint Services
PerformancePoint Services (PPS) is a service delivered as part of SharePoint platform, designed to create and publish both simple and advanced reports. Its functionalities are very useful for organizations using numerous analyses to make business decisions, establish action strategies and define subsequent development steps.
In such organizations, decision-making occurs on every organizational level, hence the tool must be easily accessible and the report generation must be fast and simple.

PerformancePoint Services
combines the existing enterprise data and the needs of advanced data analysis and clear visualization. It enables diverse forms of presentation:
  • Tabular reports
  • Management dashboards
  • Charts
  • Pivot reports
  • SQL Server Reporting Services reports
  • Filters
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI) sheets
  • Strategy maps.
The basic operational tool is Dashboard Designer, accessible from the level of browser in "ClickOnce" mode. The application does not require additional licenses or on-site installations. The Designer enables creation of management dashboards covering all logically grouped reports required for an analysis. The reports may be interdependent if the changes made in the scope of a report are expected to affect other reports included in the dashboard.

PerformancePoint Services
can operate on one-dimensional sources, such as:
  • Excel and Excel Services files
  • SQL Server tables
  • SharePoint lists.

The full list of capabilities comes to the fore when the tool uses the multi-dimensional source of SQL Server Analysis Services. In such cases, the reports become a flexible and user-friendly tool, which enables any changes to report and chart types, scope shrinking or drilldowns. Another advantage of the solution is the functionality of decomposition of the data under analysis using the Decomposition Tree.

All products of activities are published on the SharePoint platform, which consequently enables their easy sharing with the enterprise employees. Moreover, the SharePoint system-embedded security mechanisms allow for easy control over the report's accessibility for selected persons.

The tool integration into the SharePoint platform also enables making use of reports that were previously shared in Excel Services. However, an important shared element is the use of Visio Services, which enables creation of strategy maps. This tool clearly visualizes the results in geographic division, based on a map in Visio diagram.
